“Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.” ~Art Linkletter My new favorite quote.  It’s more global than that of parenting wisdom but doesn’t it work?  Some days just go wacky where kids are involved and “just going with it” can keep our hair from going gray (or at least not gray as fast….).  So when one of your children vomits on the freshly-shampooed carpet the morning of your first mani-pedi in years, remember Mr. Linkletter’s wisdom.  It has become my mantra, pretty much every day!

Recently a mother texted me that her first grader came home from school upset that my young daughter was making fun of her on the school bus.  And would I please talk with my little one?  The mom wasn’t accusatory but simply wanted the situation settled, her daughter was hurt.  Reflexively, I assumed my daughter was in the wrong, because my own mother did just that when it came to similar circumstances involving me, or because I knew the family well enough to know the mom wouldn’t exaggerate about something like this.  I didn’t go directly to my daughter to scold her; I…

Some days.  Oh, some days.  You know the days I am talking about:  there is no patience, time or energy to keep it together as a parent.  We all have them.  So on those days (and even the other days as well, just as a reminder.) when there is a nanoliter’s worth of wit between you and your kids, let this be your guiding mantra:  Parent in a way where it’s a given that your child/ren will become successful enough publish a tell-all about their youth and beyond.  ‘Nuff said.

Hello World! (the sequel)

When my blog site was “born”, my first post, courtesy of WordPress, was “Hello World!”.  That statement wasn’t exactly my vision for an opening first line, but, inevitably, like this site, my vision will morph.  And morph it did,  into something completely different for my first actual post and the visuals to accompany it.   I chose this picture for my debut blog post because I love how it screams, “Hello World!”.   Taken by my husband while on a family hike, our son gazes up at Animas Mountain.  He seems so small, looking up in wonderment at the vastness above and below him.  A “hello” if you will, from him and directed out to this amazing…
